A market built into the station itself
Tsuruhashi Market wraps directly around and beneath the train station in a dense, maze-like tangle of narrow covered lanes, packed tightly with grocers, butchers, kimchi specialists and small eateries. It's one of the more disorienting markets in Osaka to navigate on a first visit, and part of the appeal is exactly that lack of polish.
Yakiniku and Korean food
Tsuruhashi is widely considered Osaka's best neighbourhood for yakiniku — Korean-style grilled meat cooked tableside — alongside kimchi in dozens of varieties, Korean fried chicken and tteokbokki, much of it sold directly from small stalls rather than sit-down restaurants alone.
A long-established community
The neighbourhood's Korean community dates back generations, and Tsuruhashi remains one of the clearest places in Osaka to see that history reflected in daily life — from the market's shopfronts to its food — rather than presented as a curated cultural exhibit.
