The Museum of Housing and Living
Housed within the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living in Tenjinbashisuji, this museum's centrepiece is a full-scale, walkable recreation of an Osaka streetscape from the Edo period, complete with shopfronts, changing lighting to simulate day and night, and period clothing available to try on. It's one of the more immersive, less text-heavy museum experiences in the city.
Osaka Museum of History
Located beside Osaka Castle Park, the Osaka Museum of History traces the city from its earliest settlement through to the present across several floors, including a reconstructed view of the ancient Naniwa Palace that once stood on the same site. A glassed-in floor near the top gives a direct sightline to the castle tower itself.
Osaka Science Museum
In Nakanoshima, the Osaka Science Museum pairs hands-on physics and energy exhibits with a planetarium, and it's a reliable option with children on a day when the weather rules out an outdoor itinerary.
